Why is the hot water instead of cold coming out from the outside faucet?

Bought a house a few mos ago and today was the first time I used the water from outside faucet so I can wash off my daughter's water table and fill it plus watering my garden but only to find out HOT water was coming out instead of cold! I even let it run for a few mins but it seems like the longer I let the water run, the hotter it gets. How is that possible?
