How to connect a garden hose to faucet?

we just got a pool and the outside faucet is a cheap peice of plastic and we got this dumb hose that has a spring at the end . it is impossible to connect it and when i try it just falls off what do i need to do? do we need a new hose? or do we need new faucet ? and how do i fix this please help
