Water pouring from faucet and shower head?

When I turn on the faucet the shower head also pours (not leaks) water. This only occurs when I change the handle in certain positions. When I lift the diverter the shower work fine. The problem still occurs when I remove the faucet and only have water pouring from the pipe. Please help me with this problem. Thanks
